A recurring upsell lightbox encourages one-time donors to convert their donation to a monthly recurring gift, helping build sustainable revenue for your organization. 


Step 1: Access the Recurring Settings 

  1. Create or edit a contribution form in Online Actions 
  2. On the Build Page step, scroll to the "Recurring Settings" section 
  3. If you don't see this section, click "Add a Section" and select "Recurring Settings" 
  4. The section will now appear in your form editor 

 

Step 2: Enable the recurring upsell lightbox 

 

  1. Within the Recurring Settings section, check the box labeled "Enable Recurring Upsell Lightbox" 
  2. This activates the lightbox feature that will appear after one-time donors submit the form 
  3. The lightbox will ask if they'd like to convert their donation to a monthly gift 

 

Step 3: Configure the lightbox content 

 

  1. Enter a compelling headline for the lightbox (e.g., "Make Your Impact Monthly!") 
  2. Add descriptive text explaining the benefits of monthly giving 
  3. Highlight the impact of sustained support 
  4. Keep the message concise and persuasive 
  5. Consider mentioning that monthly gifts help your organization plan more effectively 

 

Step 4: Set recurring donation options 

 

  1. Choose whether to offer the same amount or a different amount for recurring donations 
  2. If offering a different amount, specify the suggested monthly gift amount 
  3. This amount is typically lower than the one-time gift to make monthly giving more attractive 

For example, if someone donates 100 one−time, you might suggest 15/month 

 

Step 5: Test and optimize your lightbox 

 

  1. Preview your form to test the full donation flow 
  2. Make a one-time donation to see how the lightbox appears 
  3. Test both accepting and declining the recurring offer 
  4. After publishing, monitor the conversion rate of the lightbox 
  5. Experiment with different messages and suggested amounts to improve conversion
