Attributions and Soft Credits help you track a donor's full history of both direct donations and attributed or soft credited contributions. Once you’ve linked donors to these kinds of contributions, you will be able to search for them based on both their direct and attributed contributions and create customized reports that help you see their total impact on your fundraising program.

You can see more details about the attributions from the Overview > Financial tab.

Viewing Recent Attributions & Soft Credits on the contact record

You can also view a summary of all donations attributed to your donor in the Attributions and Soft Credits section of the contact record. This will give you a quick overview of the contributions attributed to your donor. Use the More link (...) to view the contribution details or view the Attributions and Soft Credits Report for that donor.

If your donor is a member of a household, you can also view the soft credits attributed to all household members from the Contact Record > Financial Household tab. Because you are able to see this combined list here, it isn't necessary to soft credit more than one member of a financial household for the same gift or to soft credit gifts to other members of the same financial household.

Attributions are automatically included in the Contributions Summary for individual records. The Total Combined Amount includes both the Total Amount directly contributed by your donor as well as the Total Amount Attributed to them.

Searching on attributions and soft credits

You can use Attributions and Soft Credits as search criteria for making lists.

From the Contribution section of Create a List, you can search for everyone who made either a direct gift, an attributed gift, or both using the Direct or Attributed field.

You can also search by the Attribution Type or whether the donor was Thanked for the attributed amount.

You can also use the Contact Attribution filter in the Contribution section. This will allow you to search for all contacts who made a direct gift that was soft credited to a particular individual or organization.

From the Contribution Summaries section, you can search on the Lifetime Attributed Amount or Attributed Contributions Count.

You can also search on the name of an attributed contact under the Recurring Commitment or Pledges sections. This will find you all contacts who have made a Pledge or Recurring Commitment that is attributed to a particular individual or organization.
