Fraud Prevention tools help protect your contribution forms from credit card testing attacks while ensuring legitimate donors can still support your organization.
Step 1: Understand Online Actions fraud risks
- Contribution forms can be targeted by "carding" attacks, where stolen credit cards are tested
- Attackers may use bots to test hundreds of card numbers in minutes
- This can result in chargebacks, processing fees, and damage to your organization's reputation
- EveryAction's Fraud Prevention feature helps detect and block suspicious transactions
Step 2: Enable Fraud Prevention
- Create or edit a contribution form in Online Actions
- On the Basics step, scroll to the "Fraud Prevention" section
- Ensure the "Enable Fraud Prevention" checkbox is selected (enabled by default)
- This activates multiple layers of protection against fraudulent transactions
- Click "Save" or "Next" to continue with form creation
Step 3: Understand how Fraud Prevention works
- The system uses multiple signals to identify potentially fraudulent transactions:
Velocity checks (too many submissions in a short time)
IP address reputation
Device fingerprinting
Transaction patterns
- Suspicious transactions are automatically blocked
- This happens invisibly to legitimate users
Step 4: Temporarily disable for special fundraising events
- For high-volume fundraising events, you may need to temporarily disable Fraud Prevention
- Edit your contribution form
- On the Basics step, uncheck "Enable Fraud Prevention"
- Click "Save" and "Publish Changes"
Important: Remember to re-enable Fraud Prevention and republish the form after your event
Step 5: Monitor and respond to fraud attempts
