Integrating Google Analytics 4 (GA4) with your Online Actions forms provides valuable insights about visitor behavior and form performance.

Step 1: Set up Google Analytics 4

  1. Create a Google Analytics 4 property in your Google Analytics account
  2. Note your Measurement ID (starts with "G-")
  3. Set up any desired events and conversions in your GA4 property
  4. Ensure you have appropriate permissions to modify your Online Actions forms

Step 2: Add GA4 to your Online Actions form

  1. Create or edit an Online Actions form
  2. On the Build Page step, scroll to the "Tracking" section
  3. Enter your GA4 Measurement ID in the "Google Analytics" field
  4. The ID should be in the format "G-XXXXXXXXXX"
  5. Click "Save" to apply the tracking code

Step 3: Configure additional tracking options

  1. In the same "Tracking" section, you can enable:

Enhanced Conversion Tracking - Tracks form completion as a conversion

Enhanced E-Commerce - Tracks contribution amounts and items for contribution forms

Cross-Domain Tracking - Maintains tracking when redirecting to another domain

  2. Select the options that align with your analytics needs

Step 4: Use Google Tag Manager (optional)

  1. If you use Google Tag Manager (GTM), enter your GTM container ID
  2. The ID should be in the format "GTM-XXXXXXX"
  3. This allows more advanced tracking configurations
  4. You can send information from GTM to GA4 for analysis
  5. Use GTM to track a supporter's journey from ads to form completion

Step 5: Analyze form performance in GA4

  1. After publishing your form, open your GA4 property
  2. View standard reports to see form traffic and conversions
  3. Create custom reports to analyze specific metrics

Look for:

  • Traffic sources driving form views
  • Conversion rates by source
  • User paths through your form
  • Drop-off points where users abandon the form
