When Google Analytics 4 isn't tracking your Online Actions forms correctly, these troubleshooting steps will help you identify and resolve common issues.

Step 1: Verify your Measurement ID

  1. Check that your GA4 Measurement ID is correctly entered in your form
  2. On the Build Page step, scroll to the "Tracking" section
  3. Ensure the ID follows the correct format: G-XXXXXXXXXX
  4. Confirm it matches the ID shown in your Google Analytics 4 property
  5. Re-enter the ID if necessary and save your changes

Step 2: Check for tracking blockers

  1. Many browsers and extensions block tracking scripts
  2. Test your form in an incognito/private browser window
  3. Temporarily disable any ad blockers or privacy extensions
  4. If tracking works in incognito mode but not regular browsing, tracking blockers may be the issue
  5. Consider adding a note to supporters about disabling blockers if they want to be counted

Step 3: Verify data collection in GA4

  1. In Google Analytics 4, navigate to Reports > Realtime
  2. Open your form in another tab and interact with it
  3. Check if your activity appears in the Realtime report
  4. If it does, GA4 is collecting data but may have reporting delays
  5. If not, continue troubleshooting with the next steps

Step 4: Check for common configuration issues

  1. Ensure your GA4 property is properly set up and receiving data
  2. Verify that data collection is enabled in your GA4 property
  3. Check if your domain is on any blocklists or exclusion lists
  4. For embedded forms, ensure your website's Content Security Policy (CSP) allows Google Analytics scripts
  5. Confirm that no other tracking code conflicts are occurring

Step 5: Advanced troubleshooting

  1. Use browser developer tools (F12) to check for JavaScript errors
  2. Look for GA4 requests in the Network tab of developer tools
  3. Verify that the Google Analytics script is loading properly
  4. If using Google Tag Manager, check that your container is published and working
  5. If issues persist, contact EveryAction support with specific details about the problem
