Overview

Scripts give canvassers and callers a clear roadmap for conversations at the door or on the phone. In EveryAction, you can create Linear Scripts for straightforward outreach or Branched Scripts for conversations that change based on a person’s responses. Both Script types use the same core elements—Text, Survey Questions, and Activist Codes—and can be shared across committees for consistent outreach. Review the articles below to choose the right Script type and learn how to build it step by step.

Should I use Linear or Branched?

Use this quick guide to choose the right Script type for your outreach.

Choose Linear Scripts if:

  • You have one main message or ask

  • Everyone should follow the same conversation flow

  • You’re doing fast-paced canvassing or calling

  • Volunteers may be using paper packets or call sheets

  • You don’t need follow-up questions based on responses

Choose Branched Scripts if:

  • Conversations should change based on how someone responds

  • You want to guide volunteers to different talking points

  • You need flexibility for responses like committed, undecided, or not interested

  • You are using MiniVAN or Open Virtual Phone Bank

  • Every question should lead to a clear next step or end
