Bonterra Que is your fundraising assistant, fully embedded into EveryAction. It helps you fundraise smarter and faster by suggesting donor segments, forms, and emails, all generated based on your organization’s data, Bonterra best practices, and sector benchmarks.

With the Donor Segmentation skill, Que helps you build high-impact donor lists in two powerful ways:

  • Model-driven segments powered by DonorTrends

  • Custom segments built from natural language queries

Whether you're identifying high-potential audiences or defining exactly who you want in plain language, Que removes the complexity of Create a List while keeping you in control.

Whether you're a Digital Director, Development Officer, or Communications Manager, Que reduces the friction of segmentation so you can take action quickly.

Getting Started with Donor Segmentation in Bonterra Que

Step 1: Open Que

From your EveryAction homepage, click the “Ask Que” button.

Step 2: Ask for a Donor Segment

Try prompts like:

Model-based segments:

  • Find lapsed donors likely to return

  • Show me lapsed donors likely to reactivate

  • Find my most engaged donors

Custom segments (new):

  • Show me donors who gave more than $100 this year

  • Find donors in California who gave between $500 and $1,000

  • Show me people with the [activist code name] Activist Code. I'm building a Targeted Email campaign.

Que will either:

  • Use DonorTrends models to suggest strategic audiences, or

  • Translate your request into Create a List filters to build a custom segment

Step 3: Review the Segment Preview

Each segment includes:

  • The number of contacts

  • Key metrics (e.g., average gift, giving behavior)

  • A description of the segment

  • A summary of filters used (for custom segments)

  • A button to View the segment in My List

  • A button to Edit the segment in Create a List

You can:

  • Accept and save the segment for use in campaigns, or

  • Refine it further (in chat or in Create a List)

Step 4: Refine and Save

You have two options to refine your segment:

Refine in Que (new):

  • Add follow-up prompts like:

    • “Only include donors in New York”

    • “Exclude anyone who gave in the last 3 months”

Refine in Create a List:

  • Open the segment in Create a List

  • Adjust filters as needed

  • Save for reuse across workflows

Example Use Cases for Donor Segmentation

Scenario

How Que Helps

Example Prompts

Lapsed Donor Reactivation

Builds a list of donors who gave in the past but haven’t recently, based on lapse risk models.

  • Find lapsed donors likely to give again.

  • Who hasn’t donated in over a year but has high return potential?

Recurring Giving Recruitment

Identifies frequent small-dollar donors with potential to become monthly sustainers.

  • Who is a good candidate for monthly giving?

  • Find donors most likely to become a recurring donor.

Mid-Level Ask Strategy

Surfaces donors in key giving ranges for targeted outreach.

  • Create a segment of mid-level donors.

  • Find donors who gave $500+ last year but not this year.

Targeted Outreach

Build precise audiences using your own criteria across giving, location, or attributes.

  • Show me donors who gave over $250 this year in Texas.

  • Find donors with a major donor code who haven’t given recently.
