How do I edit segments in Create-a-List after Bonterra Que?

Looking to fine-tune a segment that Bonterra Que recommended? This article shows how to open that segment in Create-a-List, make changes, and save it for use in Targeted Email and other workflows.  

Follow these steps listed below to edit a Bonterra Que segment in Create-a-List.

Step 1: Open your segment from Bonterra Que

• In Bonterra Que, ask for or select a recommended segment (based on DonorTrends pre-built searches). 
  • [Optional] Use the preview expand to spot-check records. 

Note: Bonterra Que recommends segments from DonorTrends pre-built searches. 

Step 2: Move the segment into Create-a-List

• From the Bonterra Que message with the generated list, choose the option to edit the list in Create-a-List. 
  • [Optional] Go directly to My List to view the entire list of contacts. 

Step 3: Refine criteria in Create-a-List

• In Create-a-List, review the pre-populated query and add any additional criteria your campaign needs. 
• Click Save. 
  • [Optional] Run the list and click Save from My List (same save behavior as above).  

Note: If you edit a coach-built segment directly in Create-a-List, the coach can still use that saved search for later targeting (e.g., email).  

Step 4: Use your edited segment in downstream workflows

• Back in Bonterra Que, continue your workflow. 
• Use the saved search as an audience in Targeted Email. 

Note:  

• Bonterra Que includes four skills—personalized coaching, donor segmentation, donation form building, and email creation—so your edited segment can be re-used across these workflows. Please note that donation form building and email creation are not yet available but will launch soon.
• Because Bonterra Que relies on pre-built DonorTrends searches, expect recommended segments (e.g., lapsed donors likely to reconvert). If you need criteria beyond those defaults, add them in Create-a-List before saving.
