Understanding retry attempts helps you assess message persistence and deliverability challenges.

  1. Add the Delivery Attempts column

    1. Select this column from Message Details in Edit Columns

    2. This shows how many tries were needed to reach the final delivery status

  2. Understand when attempts are tracked

    1. Delivery Attempts are only shown for the Form/Email channel

    2. The column remains blank for Twitter or Click-to-Call channels

  3. Learn the retry schedules for different delivery types

    1. Contact Form: System retries every 4 hours for up to 7 days (43 attempts maximum)

      1. Retries often succeed when target websites recover from traffic spikes or maintenance

      2. Sometimes requires updates to match changes in the target's form structure

    2. Email: System retries every 4 hours for up to 4 days (7 attempts maximum)
      1. Triggered when the target's email server indicates it's too busy (typically after 12-hour initial delay)
    3. Fax: System retries every 4 hours for up to 4 days (25 attempts maximum)
      1. Triggered when receiving "Busy" or "No Answer" responses
  4. Understand fallback logic

    1. If API or Contact Form delivery fails after multiple attempts, system tries Email or Fax if available

    2. Delivery Attempts shows only the number of attempts for the final delivery type used

  5. Use attempt data to identify problem areas

    1. High numbers of attempts may indicate technical issues with specific targets

    2. Consistent need for multiple attempts across campaigns suggests systemic problems
