Understanding Background Processing for Native Reports

Background Processing Overview

Background Processing is a setting for native reports in Apricot. You will see it in Report Properties, and it is turned off by default. An administrator decides which reports use it, one report at a time.

Long reports can be frustrating. If a report takes too long, the browser may time out and you have to start again. Background Processing fixes this. When it is turned on, the report keeps running on Apricot's side, even if you leave the page or close the tab.

This means less waiting and fewer interruptions. You can start a large report, continue your other work, and come back when it is done. Apricot tells you in the app when the report is ready, and you can also get an email if notifications are turned on for you.

In day-to-day work, administrators choose which reports need this setting (usually the slow ones), and staff simply run those reports as they always have. The only difference is that they no longer need to keep the report page open.

The articles below walk you through turning the setting on, running a report, and handling the few situations where Background Processing works differently.
