Defining your ad audience helps you target the right people with your digital advertising campaigns and track results effectively.

Step 1: Access the audience section

  1. Navigate to the second step of your Digital Ad Plan setup

  1. You'll see options to create or select a saved search to define your audience

Step 2: Select or create your audience

  1. Choose an existing saved search from the dropdown
    OR

  1. Create a new search by clicking the appropriate link

  1. Your search should define the contacts you want to target or use as a model

Step 3: Define how you'll use this audience

  1. Determine whether this audience will be used for:

  1. Direct targeting of existing contacts

  1. Creating a lookalike audience based on these contacts

  1. Excluding these contacts from your ad targeting

Step 4: Add exclusions (optional)

  1. If targeting existing supporters, consider adding an exclusion audience

  1. Select contacts you don't want to see your ads (e.g., current donors for an acquisition campaign)

Step 5: Assign a source code

  1. Enter a unique source code that will be associated with this specific advertisement

  1. This code will automatically link future contributions to this Digital Ad Plan

  1. For acquisition campaigns, this will serve as the Origin Source Code for new contacts

Step 6: Confirm your audience size

  1. Click "Update Counts" to verify your audience size

  1. Review the total number of contacts in your defined audience

  1. Ensure it meets the minimum requirements of your advertising platform
