How do I track ROI from my Digital Ad Plans?

Introduction

Tracking the return on investment (ROI) from your digital advertising efforts helps you measure effectiveness and optimize future campaigns.

Step 1: Set up proper tracking

  1. During Digital Ad Plan creation, assign a unique source code to your campaign

  1. Ensure this source code is included in all links from your advertisements to your website or donation forms

  1. Configure your landing pages to capture and pass this source code to your CRM

Step 2: Record your ad spend

  1. Enter your budgeted cost in the Details step of your Digital Ad Plan

  1. Update with actual costs once the campaign is complete

Step 3: Monitor incoming contributions

  1. As supporters click through your ads and make donations, the source code will automatically associate their contributions with your Digital Ad Plan

  1. These attributions happen automatically if your tracking is set up correctly

Step 4: Generate ROI reports

  1. After your campaign has run, access reporting features

  1. Compare the total contributions associated with your source code against your ad spend

  1. Calculate ROI by dividing contribution total by ad spend and multiplying by 100

Step 5: Analyze long-term value (for acquisition campaigns)

  1. For new donor acquisition, track the Origin Source Code over time

  1. Monitor retention, additional gifts, and lifetime value of donors acquired through this campaign

  1. This provides a more complete picture of your advertising effectiveness beyond initial conversion
