How do I create an Eliminator File?
Overview
Creating an Eliminator File helps ensure you're not paying to acquire contacts already in your database when running acquisition campaigns.
Step 1: Access Create a List
-
Navigate to Create a List in your database
-
This will be the starting point for defining which contacts to exclude
Step 2: Define your exclusion criteria
-
Build a search that captures all contacts you want to exclude from vendor acquisition efforts
-
Be as broad as possible to ensure comprehensive suppression
-
Consider including:
-
All current contacts
-
Lapsed donors
-
Previous subscribers or members
-
Any other valuable records
-
Step 3: Include special categories
-
From the Suppressions section in Create a List:
-
Check "Include Deceased" to add deceased contacts
-
Check "Include Do Not Mail" to add contacts with mailing restrictions
-
-
This ensures you won't reacquire inappropriate contacts
Step 4: Save your search
-
Save this search with a descriptive name
-
This allows you to use the same criteria consistently for future eliminator files
-
Note that the system will automatically add any contacts deleted in the past 12 months (except merged records) to your final file
