Troubleshooting: Cannot Replace {{Amount}} Error

This article helps you resolve the “Cannot replace {{Amount}}” error, which can appear during the review and delivery step of your Targeted Email.

What causes this error?

The error occurs when your email includes the {{Amount}} merge field in link text, but the am= query string parameter is missing from the link URL or has been customized in a way that doesn’t meet the requirements for the merge field to resolve.

Two common causes:

  1. You added {{Amount}} to the link text but the am= query string is not present in the URL
  2. You customized the am= query string value

How to fix it

If the am= query string is missing: Add am= and the correct value to the URL in your SmartLink. The SmartLinks wizard will add this automatically if you use it to build your link.

If you are using a customized query string: You can still display the amount in your link text — use the format_currency() macro instead of {{Amount}}. For example:

Give {{format_currency(OneTimeDefaultOptimizedAskAmount,‘USD’)}} today!
