When you send a fundraising email, asking each donor for an amount that matches their giving history improves your results. EveryAction provides merge fields tied to a contact’s contribution record that you can use in your Targeted Email content.

This article explains the contribution-related merge fields available and the macros you can use to calculate, format, and compare those values.

Contribution-Related Merge Fields

You can use the following merge fields to reference a contact’s giving history in your email content:

Merge Field

Description

{{HighestPreviousContributionAmount}}

Amount of the contact’s highest previous contribution (HPC)

{{MostRecentContributionAmount}}

Amount of the contact’s most recent contribution (MRC)

{{MostRecentContributionDate}}

Date the most recent contribution was made

{{MostRecentRecurringCommitmentAmount}}

Amount of the most recent recurring contribution

{{MostRecentRecurringCommitmentDate}}

Date of the most recent recurring contribution

{{FastActionFinalFour}}

Last 4 digits of the contact’s FastAction credit card

{{OneTimeOptimizedAskArray}}

A comma-delimited array of 6 one-time donation amounts

{{OneTimeDefaultOptimizedAskAmount}}

A single one-time Optimized Ask amount

{{RecurringOptimizedAskArray}}

A comma-delimited array of 6 monthly donation amounts

{{RecurringDefaultOptimizedAskArray}}

A single monthly Optimized Ask amount

Common Use Cases

To ask a donor for the same amount as their most recent gift:

{{MostRecentContributionAmount}}

To include a default for contacts with no giving history:

{{MostRecentContributionAmount or ‘10’}}

To reference their last gift date:

We see it has been a while since your last gift on {{MostRecentContributionDate}}.

To ask for 10% more than their highest previous gift, with a fallback for non-donors:

{{if HighestPreviousContributionAmount}} {{format_currency(HighestPreviousContributionAmount * 1.1)}} {{else}} $10 {{end}}

Conditional Content with Contribution Fields

To show different content depending on whether a contribution is recurring:

Thank you for your generous contribution of {{format_currency(ContributionAmount)}}! {{if RecurringContribution}} Recurring contributions like this really empower our organization. {{else}} Please consider making a recurring contribution. {{end}}

Macros for Contribution Fields

The following macros help you compare, calculate, and format contribution values:

Macro

Example

What It Does

greater_than

{{if MostRecentContributionAmount and greater_than(MostRecentContributionAmount,20)}} $50 {{else}} $20 {{end}}

Shows $50 if MRC > $20, otherwise $20

greater_than_or_equal_to

See source for example

MRC >= defined value

less_than

See source for example

MRC < defined value

less_than_or_equal_to

See source for example

MRC <= defined value

equals

See source for example

MRC equals defined value

not_equals

See source for example

MRC does not equal defined value

round_nearest

{{round_nearest(MostRecentContributionAmount*1.25,5)}}

Multiplies MRC by 1.25, rounds to nearest $5

min_max

{{min_max(MostRecentContributionAmount*1.25,10,100)}}

Applies minimum ($10) and maximum ($100) to calculated value

format_currency

{{format_currency(MostRecentContributionAmount*1.25,‘USD’)}}

Applies currency formatting. Supported: USD, CAD, EUR, GBP

round_currency

{{round_currency(MostRecentContributionAmount*1.25,5,10,100)}}

Combines rounding, min/max, and USD formatting in one macro. Takes 4 values: variable, round multiple, min, max

round_min_max

{{round_min_max(MostRecentContributionAmount*1.25,5,10,100)}}

Same as round_currency but without currency formatting — useful for passing values as query string parameters

Note: When comparing string values (such as dates), use single quotes around the comparison value. Example: {{if MostRecentContributionDate and greater_than(MostRecentContributionDate, ‘2017-01-01’)}}
