How to track cumulative donations to assign a membership level

My organization has a donor recognition program with 3 levels based on cumulative donations over the past 12 months or if you have an active recurring donation greater than $50/mo.

Does anybody have a similar program, where the donation level is rolling 12 months from the last donation that exceeded the threshold.? Threshold $500, Jan $50 Feb $100 June $350 - membership starts June x for 12 full months.  Or I set up recurring $45 in February with cumulative amount $0, I am still considered a member effective February because I made a commitment.

With assistance of Gemini, I have a saved search to identify yesterday’s donation and tests for the 12 month cumulative amount.  Delusional Gemini though I could use Automation to directly update the Membership (that was a no), then it said try custom fields (another no), I’m down to Activist codes but I can’t calculate/track the dates.

I know we can track if outside in spreadsheets, but I prefer to leverage the tools we purchased vs working around its limitations.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I’m open to ideas to even restructure the program if we can shoehorn it into EveryAction.  Thanks!
