Contribution Basics Overview

Contribution management in EveryAction is where you record, organize, and report on every gift your organization receives. Whether a donor gives online, mails a check, or sets up a recurring gift, this part of the system keeps a complete, searchable record of your fundraising activity in one place.

Accurate contribution records matter because everything that comes after — thank-you communications, tax receipts, financial reconciliation, and fundraising reports — depends on the data entered here. When contributions are recorded correctly and completely, your team can move quickly and confidently on the work that follows.

EveryAction supports several ways to get contributions into the system: you can add them one at a time directly to a contact record, upload a batch of gifts at once, receive them through online forms, or process them through financial batches. Each method captures the same key details — payment method, designation, amount, date, and attribution — so your records stay consistent regardless of how a gift arrived.

Your permission level determines which contribution features you can access, from basic data entry through financial reconciliation tools.

Use the sections below to understand what contribution management covers and find the right starting point for your task.

Seeing Your Impact

Once contributions are recorded, EveryAction gives you several ways to see how your fundraising is performing. The Fundraising Management dashboard provides a visual summary of funds raised and donor activity, updated nightly. Contribution Reports let you dig into giving patterns for specific time periods, campaigns, or donor segments. Contribution Aggregates let you analyze trends across your broader donor base.

For an overview of the dashboard, see Understanding the Fundraising Management Dashboard.

How can a recurring contributor update/increase their amount?

Hi @ndphillipsgoodrum,

Your donor may access their account and update their recurring gift amount directly through your self-service pages—provided you have enabled the "Increase Commitment Amount" option during setup. They log in, view their active recurring commitments, and modify the amount up to the maximum allowed by your payment processor ($999,999.99). The system processes this immediately, and they receive email confirmation of the upgrade.

Should the donor require assistance, your support team can modify recurring commitments directly within EveryAction. Access the contributor's record, locate their active recurring commitment, and update the amount. The system will process the new amount at the next scheduled payment date—unless you intentionally adjust that date as well.
