Impact Hub automatically ends your session after 1 hour of inactivity. This setting is fixed — neither users nor administrators can change it.
This article explains how the timeout works, how it relates to other Bonterra product sessions, and what to expect when your session ends.
How the timeout works
Impact Hub tracks inactivity based on browser activity — no clicks, navigation, or input. Leaving an Impact Hub tab open in the background without interacting with it counts as inactivity.
After 1 hour of inactivity, Impact Hub ends your local session and redirects you to the Impact Hub login screen.
Understanding Bonterra's layered sessions
Your Bonterra login involves three session types that operate independently:
| Session type | What it controls | Who configures it |
|---|---|---|
| Global Bonterra user account | Shared authentication across all Bonterra products | Not configurable |
| Impact Hub session | Local Impact Hub access; times out after 1 hour of inactivity | Not configurable |
| Local app session (such as Apricot) | Local access for each Bonterra product you use where this setting is available | That product's administrator, where supported |
Because these sessions are separate, timeout settings in other Bonterra products have no effect on how long you stay logged in to Impact Hub. For example, the session timeout configured in Apricot applies only to your Apricot session — it does not shorten or extend your Impact Hub session.
What ends your session
There are two ways a session can end, and they behave differently.
Inactivity timeout
Impact Hub ends your local session after 1 hour of inactivity. You are redirected to the Impact Hub login screen. Your Global Bonterra user account and any other local app sessions (such as Apricot) are not affected.
Active log out
Selecting Log out in any Bonterra product ends your Global Bonterra user account and all local app sessions at once. You will be logged out of Impact Hub and all other connected Bonterra products simultaneously.
Protect your work before stepping away
Unsaved work may be lost if your Impact Hub session times out. If you are building a report or editing content, save your work before stepping away. You can also confirm that autosave is turned on in Builder from within a report.
Resume work after a timeout
If your Impact Hub session has timed out:
- Navigate back to Impact Hub.
- Log in with your Bonterra credentials.
- Return to the report or dataset you were working on.
- Confirm that your last-saved changes are intact before continuing.
Troubleshooting
You're seeing the Impact Hub login screen unexpectedly
If you've been inactive for more than 1 hour, this is the expected timeout behavior. Log back in to resume your session.
You selected Log out and were also logged out of other Bonterra products
This is expected. Selecting Log out ends your Global Bonterra user account session, which logs you out of all connected Bonterra products at once.
