Overview
Attribution letters allow you to acknowledge contacts who should receive recognition for a contribution, even if they are not the primary donor.
Step 1: Access the contribution record
-
Navigate to the contact's record
-
Find and open the specific contribution with the attributions you want to acknowledge
Step 2: Generate letters for all attributions
Method 1: All attributions at once
-
In the Attributions and Soft Credits section, click the link above the list of contacts
-
This opens the Attributions and Soft Credits report filtered to all attributions on this contribution
Method 2: Single attribution
-
Find the specific attribution in the list
-
Click the action menu (…) next to that attribution
-
This opens the Attributions and Soft Credits report filtered to just this attribution
Step 3: Configure the report columns
-
If needed, edit the columns to include all fields required by your template
-
Make sure these columns match the merge fields in your attribution template
Step 4: Generate the letters
-
Click on Report Actions > Generate Letters
-
Choose one of the following options:
-
Generate letters based on assigned template (uses the template already assigned to each attribution)
-
Generate letters using one template (select which template to use for all selected attributions)
Step 5: Complete the letter generation
-
If using one template, select which template to use
-
Choose any follow-up actions to apply
-
Click to generate the letters
Step 6: Access your generated files

Once processing is complete, your files will be available in My Export Files
-
Download the files to open them in your word processor
