How do I build a custom report with Que?

Step 1: Open Que

From your homepage, find the “Ask Que” button from your left-hand navigation. Select that button to open up Que within your dashboard.

Step 2: Describe the report you want

In the Que prompt box, type your request in plain language. You can include the columns, filters, totals, sorts, or group-bys you need, then select Send. You don’t have to list every column for Que to build your report, as Que adds useful defaults, like contribution ID.

Example prompts:

  • “Show me contributions over $1,000 paid by check this year, with check number and check date included.”

  • “Show me contributions from the last 90 days that haven’t been thanked yet. Include contact name and date received, and sort by date received.”

  • “Pull every recurring contribution from the last six months. Include commitment ID and sort from oldest to newest.”

  • “Show me month-by-month contribution totals for 2026.”

What you can include in a prompt:

  • Filters: such as payment method, amount, date, or whether a contribution has been thanked.

  • Columns: such as check number, check date, or contact name.

  • Totals: minimum, maximum, average, first and last.

  • Sorts and group-bys: such as sorting by date received, or grouping totals by month.

You can also ask a data question without asking for a report, like “What were the average, minimum and maximum gift sizes in the first two weeks of July 2025?”

Step 3: Review your report

Que will reply with a report summary, a preview, and suggested follow-up questions. Expanding the preview shows a preview of your report, not the full report.

The Summary section of the Preview will share information such as:

  • Summary statistics: such as the number of contributions and the total contribution amount.

  • Sample records: two records from your report.

Select the Configuration section of the Preview to see:

  • Filters applied: for example, “Payment method is check,” “Amount is greater than 1,000,” or “Date received is this year.” Relative dates show as a specific date. For example, “last 90 days” appears as a date received since a set date.

  • Columns: the specific columns you asked for, plus defaults.

  • Sort: the column and direction that the report will be sorted by.

Check that the filters, date range, columns, and sort order match what you asked for. If something is off, tell Que what to change, for example, “Only include contributions over $2,500.”

Step 4: Export your report

To see the full report, export it.

  1. Select Export Report from the Que chat.

  2. Choose the export file type, which is either CSV or TSV.

  3. Que starts an export job. Small reports can finish instantly. Larger ones can take a minute or so.

  4. Once your report is ready, you will select the option to “View My Export Files.”

  5. You will be brought to My Export Files, where you can find your report by the date and time it was created.

  6. From here, select the Download File option from the Download Link column.

  7. A copy of your report will be downloaded to your computer for viewing.
