Feature Overview: Source Codes
Source codes are unique identifiers that allow you to track the outreach effort that generated a contribution or interaction. They are applied to records when supporters respond to your forms or outreach efforts and can later be used for searches and reporting to help you evaluate the effectiveness of your outreach or fundraising efforts.
Source codes help answer questions like:
- Where did this contribution/pledge come from?
- How much money did this direct mail piece raise?
- What effort caused this supporter to sign up?
- How much money did we raise in the last 12 months from people who we first acquired via our Google Ads?
Note: If you have 'Direct Response' mail plans where you use longer source codes to identify attributes of specific segments (such as donor level), you can also add the 'Extended Source Code' to your contact and contribution records - but, these are separate from the source codes you will use with your 'Online Actions' forms or 'Targeted Emails'.
