How do I use Financial Households in Create a List (CAL)?

This workflow ensures contacts whose mailable addresses exist only on the Financial Household record are included in your list and acknowledgment outputs using Create a List (CAL). 

Step 1: Build your base list 

1. Start on the EveryAction home page. 

2. Go to Contacts > Create A List. 

3. Add your donor or event filters—e.g., contributions, event attendance, date ranges. 

(Backup: use Search for a page and type “Create A List.”) 

Step 2: Apply householding to include all Financial Household members 

1. Select Add Step. 

2. Choose Householding. 

3. Under Householding Option, choose Fill Household by, then choose one of: 

• Financial Household 

• Financial Household with limit 

4. Your list now includes every member of each relevant Financial Household, not just those with individual addresses. 

This step solves the issue where donors with addresses only in the Financial Household record are excluded. 

Step 3: Filter using Financial Household Address fields 

To ensure your list includes all mailable households: 

1. Add a filter for Financial Household Address fields. 

2. Do not rely on individual address fields—Create A List uses those by default and will miss donors whose address exists only on the household. 

Step 4: Run your acknowledgment report 

When you use this list in the Contribution Acknowledgment Report: 

• The default address used is the Financial Household Address. 

• If the household address is missing, the system falls back to the contact’s Preferred Address. 

This ensures complete coverage for direct mail. 

Step 5: Export for mail merge (optional) 

Include both: 

• Home Address fields 

• Financial Household Address fields 

This protects you from missing address data during merge.
