Premium Gifts: how to provide a dropdown menu of options

A client who is migrating to EA wants to recreate it’s premium gift forms and is frustrated that if a particular premium has different options (for example different colors of the same water bottle, or different sizes of the same tshirt) they need to create a separate premium for each variant that doesn’t work well in terms of the user experience.

Apparently the premium gift option in Luminate (from whence they are migrating) doesn’t have this same limitation -- They have a dropdown that gives the option of selecting a tshirt (and from within that choice, a dropdown selecting the specific size) or “thanks, no tshirt”

Has anyone encountered an elegant solution or workaround for this issue?

Even if it involves a front end dev using Javascript for example?

Hey Rumi! Our product team was given this feedback to close this gap. In the meantime, I’m curious to see if other organizations have a workaround they use as well!

@Rumi Matsuyama Hi Rumi!!  Wanted to circle back to this post because we actually just shipped support for this as part of our Premiums Enhancements release! Premiums can now have a variant category (like Size or Color) with multiple options, each with its own SKU and availability status, so you no longer need to create a separate premium for every size or color combination.

On the donation form, this shows up exactly like what you described: a donor selects the premium (e.g., T-Shirt), and a second dropdown appears underneath it for the specific variant (e.g., Small, Medium, Large), with a "No gift for me" option still available at the top level.

Here's the how-to guide for setting it up: How Do I Add Variants, Like Size, to a Premium?

Feel free to reach out with any questions!

yes thank you! We wish we had known this was coming because my client hired a contractor to do various work-arounds to address both the premium variants AND ALSO TO ADDRESS the other great part of your new premiums release -- the thing that allows you to use ONE single form to set different premium threshholds for one time gift (larger threshhold) versus a monthly recurring gift (smaller threshhold) instead of having to create a one time form at the higher threshhold and a monthly form for the lower threshhold.  wowww.
