How do I set up Mobile Messaging in EveryAction?
This article walks you through the self-service process for provisioning and verifying a toll-free number for Mobile Messaging directly inside EveryAction.
Before you begin, make sure you've reviewed the Understanding Mobile Messaging Self-Service Onboarding article to confirm your organization is eligible and have your required information ready.
Step 1: Navigate to the Mobile Messaging Page
From your EveryAction dashboard, navigate to the Mobile Messaging page. If your account includes Mobile Messaging but you don't yet have a toll-free number provisioned, you'll see a setup prompt instead of the standard Mobile Messaging interface. Click Begin Setup to start the process.
Note: If you can't find or navigate to the Mobile Messaging page at all, it's likely your user role doesn't have the Create and Edit Mobile Messages security function — in which case your org admin can grant it. If you can access the page but your package doesn't currently include Mobile Messaging, your account executive or support can help you confirm what's included.
Step 2: Review the Third-Party Service Notice
On the next screen, EveryAction will let you know that the verification process runs through Twilio, a third-party service provider. Your toll-free number will be reserved at this step. Enter the email address that should receive status notifications about your application, then continue.
Step 3: Provide the Details for Your Compliance Messages
Before completing the Twilio form, you'll be asked for a few details: your organization's name, a support contact (email, phone, or URL), and your estimated messages per month. EveryAction uses this information to automatically generate your three required compliance messages — each kept under 160 characters so they aren't split into multiple message segments:
-
Opt-In Message – The confirmation message a supporter receives after agreeing to receive texts from your organization
-
Opt-Out Message – The message sent when a supporter texts STOP
-
Help Message – The message sent when a supporter texts HELP
A preview of each message is shown before you continue. Once your application is submitted, these messages are saved to your committee details page and cannot be edited without contacting support.
Step 4: Complete the Twilio Verification Form
After confirming your compliance messages, you'll enter Twilio's embedded verification form. This form collects information about your organization so Twilio can review and approve your toll-free number. You'll need to provide:
-
Your organization's legal business name and address
-
Your Employer Identification Number (EIN)
-
An authorized representative's name and email address (must use your organization's domain — personal email addresses such as Gmail are not accepted)
-
Opt-in proof, such as a link to the online actions form where supporters consent to receive texts
Work through each step of the form and submit when complete.
Step 5: Monitor Your Verification Status
After submitting, you'll see a Pending Verification status on the Mobile Messaging page. Twilio typically reviews applications within 3–5 business days. You can return to this page at any time to check your current status:
-
Submitted – Your application has been received
-
Pending – Twilio is reviewing your information
-
Approved – Your number is verified and your account is ready to send
-
Rejected – There is an issue with your submission (see related article below)
Once your application is approved, your committee is enabled for Mobile Messaging and you can begin sending.
