Clearing custom field data in bulk is now possible through the Bulk Upload tool. This feature extends existing functionality to custom fields, allowing you to efficiently remove custom field data across multiple records at once. You can either clear specific values using the word "CLEAR" in your upload file or opt to clear all values for selected custom fields.

Step 1: Prepare Your Bulk Upload File

Create a spreadsheet file containing the necessary identifiers (like VANID) for the records you want to update

In the columns corresponding to custom fields, you want to clear, enter the word CLEAR (in all capital letters)

Save your file in a compatible format (CSV recommended)

Step 2: Access the Bulk Upload Tool

Navigate to the Main Menu, select Run Bulk Upload. Choose “Upload New File.” From there, select the appropriate option for your data (typically "Load data with Voter File VANID"). Click Next to proceed.

Step 3: Upload and Map Your File

Click Select a File and upload your prepared file. On the Bulk Upload Details page, select Apply Custom Contact Fields.

From there, you'll see a checkbox at the top that says: "Check this box to allow cells in the data file that are populated with the word CLEAR to remove existing custom field data for that row". Make sure this checkbox is checked to enable the CLEAR functionality.

Map your file columns to the appropriate custom fields.

Step 4: Review and Complete the Upload

Review your mapping selections on the Bulk Upload Details page. Click Finish to proceed.

When prompted with the confirmation modal, click Finish again. From here, the bulk upload will process - this may take some time. When complete, you'll see a confirmation message.

Step 5: Verify Results

To properly validate the results, find a sample of the records you just updated. Check that the custom field values have been cleared as expected. The fields where you used "CLEAR" in your file should now show no data.
