Email Suppressions on records with duplicate emails

My question is somewhat related to this discussion post about how the system treats records with duplicate emails.

We sent a Targeted Email to our full list yesterday, excluding our manual Suppression list. I now want to send that same Targeted Email, only to those emails that didn’t receive the first one.

I’m trying to figure out how to accurately pull a list that won’t send folks duplicate emails.

  • For records A and B with the same email address x@gmail, record B was in our Suppression list. Record A, however, still received the email.
  • My initial strategy is to Create a List and remove any records that received yesterday’s email. When I Create a List and remove any contacts that received yesterday’s email, record B is included in that List. So I assume using this list would mean x@gmail gets the email again, since my search relied on whether a record received an email, not whether an email address received an email.
  • Are there any ways that I can re-send this email to our Suppression list, without some folks getting a second email?

    Hey @jacobk

First thing I am going to suggest, is going through your duplicates and merging them, especially if you don’t have too many. We launched a new way to merge duplicates quickly, you can learn more here: https://community.bonterratech.com/duplicate-management-408

Another workaround that may work would be:

    1. Export the recipient list from your Targeted email (Email Performance Report)
    2. Bulk Upload that list back into EA and apply a new Activist Code to all records sharing those email addresses (something like Received send 1). Since both record A and B share the same email address, both records will receive this code.
    3. Build your new audience and add a suppression for anyone tagged with that activist code. That should exclude both record A and B
