I asked this question in the Fundraising group but haven’t gotten a response--maybe this is a better place for it. Is there a way to add a Custom Calculated Field that calculates the amount of time that has passed since a donor’s first contribution? We are investigating using language such as “Thank you for being a supporter for __ years!” in cultivation and appreciation messages.

Custom Calculated Field - years since first gift
Hi Jamie! I don’t see a way for Custom Calculated Fields to take care of this for you. Is this a one-off message you want to send to donors or a recurring communication?
If recurring, I do wonder if a Workflow Automation could help though? My thought being…
- Create a new Automation
- Create a saved search that uses the Anniversary of first gift option in Contribution Summaries for step 1. You’d have to define your timeframe (e.g. tomorrow, next month)
- Add a step to wait for a period of time
- Add an action to send an email that has the language you want
This doesn’t allow you to populate a donor’s specific timeframe in as a merge field, but it lets you control what is being told and when it’s being told. You could add additional steps to wait longer and send more communications as the anniversaries continue. This is something you could edit over time too, so you can update your verbiage as needed to be relevant/timely.
