How do I prevent a member of a financial household who doesn't normally donate from being counted as a first time donor (even though the other member donates regularly?)
We just finished our annual campaign and were surprised by how many first time donors the fundraising dashboard was showing. I used Create A List to generate my own list of first time donors, and when I went in and actually looked at each donor, many (almost half) were actually financially householded with regular donors as the other member. How do I get a good count of actual new donors without having these folks counted (my org would not see these as new donors). I did use the narrow by financial household step in my search creation.
Thanks!

It sounds like you did a search for First Contribution and then added a step to narrow results by Financial Household? If you have not already tried this, when you go to Contribution Summaries, under the first drop-down menu for “Include Financial Households” select “Financial Households and Individuals”. Then select your date range for First Contribution. This should reduce the count of first time donors you are seeing if you previously had that set to Individuals Only. You can then add your second step for Householding and Narrow List to One Contact Per Financial Household.
