Automation Questions

We’re starting to play around more with automations and had two questions about functionality:

1) For a contact with multiple emails that are subscribed, unsubscribed, and not subscribed, will EA automatically only send to just subscribed emails within the flow of an automation? When we send an eblast through targeted email, it automatically only sends to subscribed emails. We’re already limiting to contacts with subscribed emails, but want to avoid people with multiple emails on their contact record from getting emails to the addresses that are not subscribed.

2) What happens to duplicates that enter into an automation flow and are later merged? IE Contact A and Contact B both enter into different automations, but after the first round of actions we realize they are duplicates and merge them. Will the merged Contact A-B continue in both automation flows, or will only the “winning VANID” continue?

    Hey @jeff!

For question 1, that should work just as it does in Targeted email. Unsubscribed and Not Subscribed emails on a contact record will not be emailed. If the Contact has multiple email addresses that are Subscribed, each would receive the emails.

With a deduped record, I think only the remaining record would continue in an automation they were actively in when the record was merged. The record that is folded into the "primary" record was in an automation, I believe that goes away. I am not 100% on this though so I checked with someone else to confirm and will get back to you!

    thank you Rachel,

Glad to know for Q1. That is reassuring!

For question 2, thanks for checking. We might build in a later decision / exit that will check to make sure the contact is not also in one of the other automations before proceeding - which would make sure that contacts are in the correct workflow post merge without getting multiple versions of the same email.

Curious if there’s an option within an automation to essentially re-consolidate for a future step. A clear example is probably helpful here:

In an abridged welcome series of three emails, we want new contacts to hear from a specific program director depending on their engagement. So after getting a welcome email from our ED, the second email would come from one of four different senders - creating four branches within the same automation. Is there a way to send the third email from me with an ask without having to input that four separate times in each of the branches?

@jeff Unfortunately that is NOT something that EveryAction can currently do.
